Slag Coagulant
Powder that turns slag on the molten metal surface into a dry mass that is easy to remove.
A slag coagulant is a powder mix sprinkled on the molten metal surface that converts slag from liquid to a dry mass that is easy to skim. It reduces metal loss with the slag and makes furnace and ladle cleaning easier.
It is generally applied after melting is complete, before temperature adjustment and sampling, spread evenly over the bath surface. Different compositions exist for different slag types (silicate, oxide) and bath temperatures. Compatibility with the lining type is important; some grades are for silica linings and others for basic and neutral linings.
Overuse can increase lining wear. The recommended quantity and temperature range should be checked per product.
