Ferroalloys
Silicomanganese (SiMn)
Ferroalloy supplying manganese and silicon together for steel and cast iron.
Silicomanganese supplies manganese and silicon in a single addition. It is used for deoxidation and alloying in steel castings, and for manganese and silicon adjustment in cast iron. Its carbon content is much lower than that of ferromanganese.
It can replace HC FeMn in steel grades that need low carbon, and when both manganese and silicon are required, one addition brings the analysis closer to target than two separate ones. Grain size and addition timing affect recovery in the furnace.
Phosphorus and carbon can vary by lot, so the analysis certificate should be checked.
Typical chemical analysis (%)
| Manganese (Mn) | 60-70 |
|---|---|
| Silicon (Si) | 14-20 |
| Carbon (C) | ≤ 2,0 |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0,30 |
| Sulphur (S) | ≤ 0,04 |
Typical ranges. Exact values are given in the analysis certificate of each lot.
