Coil Grout

Refractory grout that protects the induction furnace coil and seals between lining and coil.

Coil grout is a refractory mortar applied to the outer surface of the copper coil in an induction furnace. It protects the coil from heat, metal leakage and mechanical damage, fills the gap between coil and lining and maintains the integrity of the furnace structure.

Alumina and silica-based versions are common. Thermal conductivity, temperature resistance and compatibility with coil cooling affect furnace efficiency. Proper application requires a clean, dry surface and a homogeneous, void-free layer.

Cracking or spalling raises the risk of metal leakage, so the condition of the coil grout should be checked during periodic maintenance. Coil cooling water must be shut off when the grout is replaced.
